COUPLES THERAPY IN NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY
Improve communication & restore intimacy.
Things with your partner feel hard right now due to relationship distress.
Maybe the days blur together and with all of the day-to-day responsibilities, you feel like two ships passing in the night. Often, one partner may feel the need for change more acutely and may be the first to suggest seeking help through therapy. Perhaps you generally weren’t good communicators or your differences (ways of thinking/approaching problems) were apparent but didn’t cause such a wedge between you as much as it does now (after kids, life transitions). It can be deeply painful feeling disconnected or at odds with your partner.
You're tired of:
Asking for change that doesn't occur
Having conversations that become arguments
Yelling, ignoring, or pulling away as a way to cope
How Couples therapy in NY and NJ can help you
Couples therapy can help you feel connected and united
I utilize Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT) to help couples restore intimacy in their relationship and improve their communication. I also prioritize cultural sensitivity to ensure that therapy respects and acknowledges your unique backgrounds and experiences. As an IBCT therapist, I understand that each person in the relationship has their own upbringing, ways of being, quirks/differences that shape who they are and influence how they may act. My goal is to help you both get to a place where you too understand one another and can express difficult feelings without feeling attacked.
Having a skilled therapist in the room can be incredibly helpful to highlight the pattern of interaction that keeps you both stuck and to facilitate new ways of speaking, understanding, and responding to one another.
Through couples therapy, we can break the pattern of conflict, and help you nurture your relationship, so that you can face life’s ups and downs together as a team.
imagine if you…
Understood each other's differences rather than attack or criticize one another or those differences
Understood the impact on a deeply emotional level that each other's behavior has on the other
Felt connected and changed your behavior out of understanding not demanding
I want you to know:
Change is possible.
Feeling connected to your partner is essential for a healthy relationship. Engaging in couples therapy is a healing process that can help you both reconnect and rebuild your relationship. It’s about changing behavior patterns that no longer serve you and finding new ways to communicate effectively.
Let’s work together to improve your relationship. Our work together will not only improve your relationship but also enhance your overall well-being. With my expertise and your goals, we can create a strong working alliance to restore your relationship.

What is Couples Therapy?
-
Couples therapy, also known as marriage counseling or relationship counseling, is a specialized form of psychotherapy designed to help partners improve their relationship satisfaction and resolve conflicts. The primary goal of couples therapy is to foster healthy communication patterns and strengthen the emotional bond between partners. A licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) or a couples therapist with expertise in an evidence-based couples therapy like Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT) can guide couples through their relationship issues, helping them navigate challenges and work towards a more fulfilling partnership. By addressing underlying issues and promoting understanding, couples therapy can be a transformative experience for many relationships.

At the beginning of treatment, I will conduct an assessment in which I meet with you both and then one another separately to understand your upbringing, previous life experiences, and preferences. At the end of the assessment phase, we discuss how these different factors come together influence your pattern of communicating with one another and begin working towards your goals.
After the assessment, which is four sessions long, we will begin treatment and that can generally take about 6 months to a year. I ask couples to commit one month at a time and we monitor progress throughout.
